Leadership in Action: Dean Brooks on Building People, Partnerships, and What’s Next

Over the past decade, Creative Sign Designs (CSD) has evolved from a company largely focused on traditional monument and ADA signage into an organization delivering complex signage programs for stadiums, airports, entertainment destinations, and developments across the country. As its capabilities and reach have expanded, so has the importance of experienced leadership capable of guiding teams, strengthening client relationships, and navigating an increasingly sophisticated industry.

For Dean Brooks, who has spent the past ten years helping drive that evolution, the company’s continued growth represents an opportunity to build on what matters most to him: its people.

Brooks has been promoted to Vice President of Sales at Creative Sign Designs and appointed Vice President of Sales at Rite Lite Signs, CSD’s newly acquired subsidiary in Concord, North Carolina. The expanded role places him at the forefront of a new chapter for both organizations as they bring together complementary capabilities, strengthen their presence in existing markets, and pursue new opportunities.

While the appointment reflects his contributions to CSD’s growth, Brooks views the opportunity through the lens of team development, collaboration, and the relationships that have defined his career.

A Leadership Philosophy Built Around People

Throughout his tenure at CSD, Brooks has helped cultivate a sales culture grounded in accountability, trust, and a genuine commitment to one another’s success. Rather than relying on a top-down management style, he believes effective leadership means establishing clear expectations while giving individuals the confidence, independence, and support to take ownership of their work.

That philosophy extends beyond professional performance. Brooks has long viewed his team as a close-knit group whose relationships and shared experiences contribute to their success. Being accessible, offering guidance through challenges, and recognizing the importance of life outside the workplace are central to how he leads.

“Leadership isn’t about standing above your team; it’s about standing alongside them, leading by example, and being willing to step in whenever needed,” Brooks said.

His approach has been shaped by a decade of experience at CSD and by the influence of mentors, including CSD President and CEO Jamie Harden and Melanie Harden, who have reinforced the importance of compassion, accountability, and investing in others.

“Dean brings an exceptional blend of strategic vision, relentless drive to succeed, and deep market expertise to our executive team. His ability to build high-performing sales teams, navigate complex project demands, and foster long-term client trust has been instrumental in driving CSD’s growth and industry leadership,” said Jamie Harden, President and CEO of Creative Sign Designs.

For Brooks, that commitment to building strong teams goes beyond business performance. He measures success by the opportunities he creates for others, whether helping team members advance their careers, develop confidence, or achieve goals they may not have thought possible.

A Commitment That Extends Beyond CSD

Brooks’ interest in leadership development and mentorship also extends beyond the workplace. His involvement with YPO and Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay reflects a commitment to continued learning and creating opportunities for others.

Through YPO, Brooks has spent more than a year connecting with business leaders from around the world, gaining perspectives that have challenged and strengthened his approach to leadership. One of the most meaningful lessons has been recognizing the value of vulnerability and the importance of seeking guidance from others, even when occupying a leadership position.

That emphasis on personal growth carries into his involvement with Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, where he serves on the Connections Board. His commitment to the organization is rooted in his own upbringing and an understanding of how access to guidance, practical education, and real-world experiences can influence a young person’s future.

Junior Achievement’s focus on financial literacy and career readiness resonates deeply with Brooks, who sees the opportunity to support young people facing similar challenges as a meaningful way to give back.

Both experiences have reinforced a belief that has become central to his leadership philosophy: professional achievement is important, but the lasting influence of a leader is reflected in the people they help develop and the opportunities they create along the way.

Guiding Growth in an Evolving Industry

As Brooks takes on expanded responsibilities across CSD and Rite Lite Signs, he brings a perspective shaped by significant changes in both the signage industry and the expectations of the clients it serves.

Advancements in digital signage, LED technology, manufacturing automation, and artificial intelligence are transforming how signage solutions are developed and delivered. At the same time, increasingly complex projects require greater coordination, technical expertise, and collaboration among architects, developers, general contractors, and signage partners.

Brooks believes these changes have elevated the role of signage providers well beyond fabrication and installation. Today, clients increasingly depend on experienced partners who can contribute during the earliest stages of development, helping navigate master sign planning, code requirements, engineering considerations, and brand implementation before production begins.

“A true partner doesn’t just sell signs—they act as an extension of the client’s development and branding team,” Brooks explained.

That perspective is particularly relevant as CSD and Rite Lite Signs begin leveraging their complementary strengths. CSD’s expertise in architectural, ADA, and interior signage, combined with Rite Lite’s capabilities in areas such as structural awnings, creates opportunities to expand services, strengthen manufacturing capacity, and offer more comprehensive solutions across both organizations’ markets.

For Brooks, the goal is not simply to take on more projects, but to build the infrastructure, processes, and collaboration needed to deliver them successfully. He sees continued investment in technology and operational efficiency as essential to supporting sustainable growth, improving the client experience, and creating opportunities for employees without placing unnecessary demands on their teams.

That focus on thoughtful execution has also shaped his approach to client relationships. Brooks believes a company’s reputation is defined not by the absence of challenges, but by its willingness to take ownership, communicate openly, and see commitments through to completion. It’s a philosophy that places long-term trust ahead of individual transactions and reinforces the value of a true partnership.

Building on a Decade of Progress

As CSD and Rite Lite Signs move forward, Brooks’ expanded leadership role will be instrumental in aligning their sales efforts, strengthening their market presence, and building on the expertise of both teams.

Harden views the appointment as an important step in that progression, pointing to Brooks’ strategic vision, competitive drive, and operational discipline as qualities that position him to help guide the organizations through their next phase of growth.

The opportunity is equally meaningful to Brooks, who has witnessed CSD’s transformation over the past ten years and sees considerable potential in the years ahead. From increasingly complex architectural signage programs to the company’s growing presence in sports and entertainment, each new market has brought opportunities to strengthen capabilities, deepen expertise, and develop the people behind the work.

Yet even as the business expands, his priorities remain consistent: build great teams, earn lasting client trust, and create an environment where individuals have the opportunity to succeed.

“Looking back at what we’ve accomplished over the last decade, I can’t wait to see what the next ten years bring,” Brooks said.

For CSD, Brooks’ promotion recognizes more than a decade of contributions to the business. It reflects the leadership, relationships, and commitment to people that will continue to shape the organization’s future—and the values at the heart of positively guiding people.
